Digitization Day 2025

UMBC Special Collections’ Maryland Traditions Archive presents the Ashley Minner collection Digitization Day.

This year’s community archiving event will be held on Saturday April 26 from 11:30am-3pm at the historic South Broadway Baptist Church located at 211 S. Broadway, Baltimore MD 21231.

We will be scanning photos and materials from the public as well as recording oral histories to help grow the American Indian archive. There will also be representatives from MARMIA (Mid-Atlantic Regional Moving Image Archive) to discuss the digitization of VHS, cassette tape, and reel-to-reel film to be completed at their facility at a later date.

The Ashley Minner collection, a part of our Maryland Traditions Archive, focuses on the Lumbee community’s migration from North Carolina to Baltimore during the mid-twentieth century. We are excited to work with the local community to document many of the individual histories of American Indians in the Baltimore region for future research and enjoyment.

Members of the American Indian community are encouraged to bring their photos, journals, family documents, video and audio recordings, and individual stories that trace their history to Baltimore to be digitized, added to our collection, and preserved for posterity. We can provide digital copies to all participants, as well as inform you of how to best care for your cherished materials.
